Merideth HackettCarpe Diem Student

Landscapes done in Watercolor, acrylic, encaustic & Oil

Artist Reception: Friday, October 3rd, 6:00pm

Teacher, Janice Kooch Campbell, as an artist herself, can easily pick out a like minded soul in the happy hum of a classroom art session. Merideth Hackett is one such child. Since her first year as a petite Carpe Diem kindergartner, she has demonstrated her passion for drawing and painting.  She has now graduated from Carpe Diem and has moved on to The Harbor School to share her passion for art there. For the last several months, Merideth has been focusing her painting  mostly on landscapes as she learns new painting techniques and uses new mediums.  Since Merideth has been experimenting with a variety of new mediums, she has produced an exciting collection of florals and other experimental works which she has included in a body of work that she will be showing at Cafe Luna. Merideth Hackett is perhaps the youngest artist on Vashon ever to have her own show, and will exhibit her landscapes done in water color, acrylic, encaustic  and oil.

Merideth's Autobiography
I have been painting and drawing ever since I can remember. What I love most about painting are the colors and textures that I can make. I love painting landscapes, but I also love playing with a new medium and going crazy making wild paintings. I'm not afraid to try out new ideas because I know I can always change it, or start a new painting. I learn a lot by experimenting with paint and mixing colors. This body of work includes most of the paintings that I have done since April 2008. They include my landscapes and tree paintings, but I have included my flower paintings and experimental works too. Most of the paintings were done using acrylic on paper and canvas, and watercolor on paper. The others were painted using oil on board and canvas, and  a small collection of my pieces are encaustics on board. I hope you enjoy my paintings as much as I loved painting them.

"The Imaginery Tourist"

by Greg Wessel Artist Reception: Friday, December 5th, 6:00pm

Vashon artist and geologist Greg Wessel will be exhibiting a collection of faux Vashon travel posters that highlight some of the lesser known, unknown, and purely imaginary tourist attractions of Vashon and Maury Islands.  Some of these attractions are things most people would rather keep quiet.  He calls the collection "The Imaginery Tourist."  All of the images are pin-registered multiple-block linocut prints that he has pressed by hand in very short print runs of 10 or less.  Only one of each will be available for sale.
